I had this little black 3 drawer box and an old wooden jewelry box that I have been planning to paint. I did know I wanted them to be for a little diva but, I had no idea how I wanted them to look. So they sat waiting for inspiration.
Inspiration hit after reading recent posts by two great bloggers. Amy at The Salvage Collection did a blog about a vanity that reminded her of her Grandma. Here. It totally brought me back to my Grandma's costume jewelry and sitting on her bathroom floor going through it. Amy used some subtle gold tones that were just beautiful. Julia at 551 East Design did this really cool vanity, here and got me thinking black with bold color. Then Julia posted she was debating a hot pink dresser. Ahh...Inspired. They say imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery, I hope I did you two proud.
The tall box was painted pink then distressed back to reveal the original black. The smaller traditional jewelry box was painted pink with a thick textured base coat, black over top, and then sanded smooth to reveal the pink. Both boxes were glazed with Valspar's Earth Glaze. This glaze was on clearance at Lowes, so I grabbed it to try. It leaves a champagne gold metallic sheen. Lovely.
My daughter is begging me to keep them.
Now I really want to see how Julia's hot pink dresser turned out!
