This week is spring break at our house. Neighbors all around us were noticing the new bench in our yard as we were all playing outside. It was sitting in a nice spot where I could watch the boys play basketball. My yard will not be the home for it, this bench was a piece I did for Radically Recycled. It was picked up to sit outside the new store. So no more basketball watching from this bench, but hopefully lots of happy visitors will find it and rest after checking out the new shop!
The bench was in pretty bad shape when I got it, but it was sturdy. There was a fungus growing all over it, and it was pretty rough. However, the boards were all solid. Lots and lots of sanding later, it was ready for some color. I mixed a few different shades of blue, teal, green, and purple wet on wet and then sanded them back. This gave a nice weathered and distressed look, but will not expose the raw wood to the elements as it sits outside. It took about twice as much paint as I was thinking, it just kept sucking right in! I then gave her quite a few coats of poly. Can't wait to see it in front of the shop soon!
Here's what it looked like before it's facelift.
Now, I might just have to find another bench to please the neighbors and have a cozy spot to watch basketball.

I love the color Kristin!!
Wow, it's gorgeous now! I wonder, is it just latex paint you used? Because I want to paint an old work picnic bench in my yard but still have the wood grain show like yours does, that's perfect and such a fun colour!
That should say "worn" not work, lol!
