Surprises for Geo

Mother's Day has come and gone...Well ours was a little late.  Geo fairy has been visiting for the last week enroute north from Florida.  We've gotten some projects done to share soon.  She did some fun updates to the fairy garden this weekend!

She has been talking about the thin bird signs and porch rules subway art she's been seeing on Pinterest...

Surprise Happy Mother's Day Geo!  a little late, but still heartfelt.

First up, birds sign....

A old pine board, a mix of blues, red, black, sanding and stain and Geo has her birds.

Her second want took more work.

I used my Silhouette to create the words.  I used Bernhard MT Condensed.  Font size was 50-200pt.  I used some Pinterest and Etsy ones as inspiration, but I customized the words to things that occur at the deer house porch.  I cut the words on contact paper.

I used another cabinet door from Habitat for Humanity.  I base coated it black.  I drew lines to keep the contact paper words straight.  I applied each word letter by letter, line by line.  (Then I ordered transfer tape for my next sign!)

I put a thin layer of black on top of the letters to prevent bleeding of the top color.  I top coated with a tan and antique white.  Once dry to tacky, I removed all the letters.  Distressing finished it off.

I'll update later this summer with the pictures hung in the porch when our family goes for our visit.

Hope you like them Geo!

I love both projects, they look wonderful! What is and where did you order transfer tape? I really want to try one of these subway signs!

Kristin these are really great. I wish I had the patience to try that much lettering. I think it's such a great addition to any space to have some sort of typography. Maybe I could start with something smaller. I've been wanting to do a couple of different signs. Thank you for coming by Quirky Vistas and leaving me your thoughts on painting the Beast! I need all the "just do it" encouragement I can get or I will just think about it for-ever.
