Today is my last morning to hit the garage sale thursday without three kids in tow. It's finally the last day of school for us today. Kids are so excited to be done. I am out the door for one last morning of garage sales with just the little man. I am hoping to have some great finds like I did last week.
Last thursday started out to be a total strike out. The subdivision sales and we only got out of our van to say hello to friends. All we saw is what my son and I call driveways- a sale neither of us think looks good.
After our visit with friends we hit one more subdivision of sales. I found "the" sale of the day. Troy said it was a driveby. I overruled. We scored!
A nice guy was selling off part of his parents estate. His parents had a some nice old furniture and Fiestaware! It was a sale where prices weren't marked. I don't like these!
I started out asking how much a child's desk was. His price was high. I then saw the Fiestaware. I asked him his prices. His prices were very low! I saw a little end table in the back of the garage, another low $7. I gathered a large pile of Fiestaware and the $7 table. I then threw out a offer for my pile and included the desk in my offer. He countered $10 higher. SCORE! Lets just say, I could have paid that much for my Fiestaware pile!
So we filled up the van with a large lot of Fiestaware dishes.
I have enough plates now that I could start using them as our dishes, but I am still to chicken too. So I am using the knockoff's and have the real piled nicely on display. I still have lots of pieces I want, but my collection almost doubled from last week's find.
Next in the van was the desk. As we were loading the desk in, the man told me it was a desk his mom brought home from work years ago. He said she was a kindergarten teacher in the city of Detroit.
As I was unloading the desk and chairs at home, his story was verified. The pieces are stamped Detroit Board of Education.
The desk and chairs are in progress back to beautiful. They need lots of sanding, a little glue, some new varnish, and some fairy magic. I plan on bringing them over to Country Antiques and Eclectic Decor for their antique sale next weekend.
I wonder what will come home with me today. I hope to find a few good finds before school is out for summer at noon today!
Happy Summer Break! Guessing most of you are well into it, since we get out so late. Got any survival tips that I should start tomorrow?
